Synthesis post 2

the overall meaning of the motif (symbolic objects) is still in the same course as the first couple of chapters, TIM is seen struggling with himself and through the objects he able to overcome himself and finally start seeing the truth. the symbolic objects are still implemented in getting readers an "ah ha moment" and realizing the path TIM is going through and walking esch step with him regardless that we know the outcome. When TIM finally realizes himself and starts acknowledging he is invisible and will stay an invisible and see the truth with fresh eyes the readers finally understand he has awoken and with all the hardships he's faced all the items in the briefcase for example being burned and forgotten to escape that white power that a hold of him are out of way and harm he is free and can see now.

Epilogue

the symbolic object in the epilogue is invisibility  "I'm invisible, not blind" pg 576  the symbol represents how through the whole novel TIM has been trying to seek acceptance and power from everyone powerful but he has finally accepted he is invisible and has seen the truth with his eyes and even though no one can see him he is fully aware of everything so he is not "blind" anymore.

Chapter 25

Symbolic Object: TIM's Briefcase Quote: “I realized that to light my way out I would have to burn every paper in the brief case.” (567)  When TIM burns his briefcase, it signifies him breaking the cycle of not thinking for himself. He is destroying his memories of the past and conditions set by white society. TIM is setting himself free  and  choosing to live by his own standards and power.

Chapter 23

\ Symbolic Object: Dark Glasses Quote: “They were of a green glass so dark that it appeared black, and I put them on immediately, plunging into blackness and moving outside.” (482)  The glasses represent the Invisible Man becoming someone else through putting on a disguise, he became Rinehart; another man who lives in the city. TIM is involved in several cases of misidentification when he puts on the dark glasses. He makes himself invisible to Ras and the other people that know him.The glasses show TIM how to become invisible and the power that Rinehart holds over different groups of people by being able to transform into whatever character is acceptable for the situation. The glasses are also a veil in the fact that TIM can see the people but they can't see the real him.

Chapter 22

Symbolic Object: Brother Jack's Fake eye Quote: "His left eye had collapsed, a line of raw redness showing where the lid refused to close." (474) The fake eye had revealed that Brother Jack was blind/ had distorted vision. Brother Jack is not able to see the full picture, he can only see the Brotherhood's goal which is why he is so one-sided and controlling of TIM, he has a one track mind. This relates back to why he was arguing with TIM in this chapter, he is mad at TIM for giving a passionate speech from his heart, it wasn't approved by Brotherhood.
